| Women’s Group Donates $3,000 to Cancer Center
The United Women’s Club of Lakeland showed its commitment to the fight against cancer March 1, with a generous $3,000 donation to the Center for Cancer Care & Research in Lakeland. The club presented the check at a ceremony at the center, which is owned and operated by Clark & Daughtrey Medical Group, P.A., and Watson Clinic. The center is located at 1730 Lakeland Hills Blvd., next to the clinic. Joining the women’s club in awarding the donation were Linda and Michael Logan, who had hosted a wine and cheese party at their south Lakeland home to raise the $3,000. More than 150 people attended that event. Glenda Fontaine was a platinum sponsor. Chris McLaughlin of Keller Williams Realty was the gold sponsor. George Harris and Clyde Sprott of Citrus & Chemical Bank were silver sponsors, as were Isabel Cumming and Publix Super Markets Inc. Several physicians from the cancer center attended the fundraiser. The Linda Moser Singers and musicians Art and Melody Pranno provided the music for the party. At the March 1 check presentation, the women’s club was represented by Isabel Cumming, Mary Erdman, Carol Berry, Verna Wooten and Mildred Bulman. The donation was accepted by Dr. Antonio Trindade, an oncologist with Clark & Daughtrey, and Dr. Louis Saco, Watson Clinic’s chief executive officer. The women’s club said the fundraiser for the cancer center was so successful they plan to make it an annual event. |
