Bruce A. Kottke, M.D., an internal medicine physician at Clark & Daughtrey Medical Group, was a finalist for a new award given by Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine for achievement in medical research. Dr. Kottke, who joined C&D in February 2004, was nominated for the award in recognition of his work in heart and diabetes care. Dr. Kottke, who holds a Ph.D. as well as a medical degree, organized and led the cardiovascular research unit at the renowned Mayo Clinic. In 1996-97, he was selected by his peers as "One of the Best Doctors in America". In March, he published an article in Cardiology magazine calling for a new strategy to address diabetes -- with heart doctors leading the way. Dr. Kottke volunteers at Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine, specializing in treating underinsured people for diabetes.
